WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION REGIONAL OFFICE FOR EUROPE INVITATION TO THE MEDIA First meeting of Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network in the WHO European Region 11-13 October 2016, Presidential Library, t. Petersburg, Russian Federation The global community is dealing with emergencies of unprecedented scale. Disease outbreaks can occur anywhere, anytime and can shatter communities. European experts play a major role in responding to epidemics globally to protect affected people and European citizens alike. Experts on health emergencies response around Europe will gather in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation on 11–13 October 2016 at the first European meeting of the WHO led Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN). The 100 participants especially from Russian-speaking countries will aim at strengthening Europe's role in outbreak response globally. The meeting is organized by WHO and the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor), and supported by the Government of the Russian Federation.
